How online swim coaching works

Coaching runs entirely online, across the USA and South Africa. Here’s exactly how I work on your stroke without ever standing poolside.

  1. 1

Film a length on your phone

Prop your phone at the end of the lane, or ask someone to hold it. A side-on and a front-on clip of one or two lengths is plenty: I’ll tell you exactly what angle helps most.

  2. 2

    I review the footage

I watch it stroke by stroke, the same way I would from the pool deck, and pick out the two or three things that will make the biggest difference.

  3. 3

You get annotated fixes & drills

Notes and marked-up clips land in the coaching app: clear, specific, and built around what your stroke needs next, not a generic checklist.

  4. 4

    Film again, keep refining

Work the drills, send a new clip, and watch the fixes stack up over weeks: the same feedback loop a poolside coach gives you, just asynchronous.

Questions

Before you dive in

Do I need access to a pool?

Yes, somewhere to swim a length or two: a local pool, gym pool or club session all work fine. I coach from your footage, not poolside, so it doesn’t need to be a fancy facility.

What if I can barely swim a length without stopping?

That’s completely fine. That’s exactly the kind of footage I want to see. Technique fixes matter most for beginners, and the drills are built around where you actually are, not where you “should” be.

How do I actually film it?

Prop your phone against a kickboard or bag at the end of the lane, or ask a friend to hold it, and film side-on and front-on for one or two lengths. No special equipment required. Once you sign up, I send simple filming tips so the footage is useful.

Do you coach both beginners and competitive swimmers?

Yes, from nervous first-timers to club swimmers chasing a personal best. The footage-based approach works the same way at every level, it’s just the fixes that change.

Ready when you are

Ready to fix what’s slowing your stroke down?

Tell Paul where you’re at and what you swim. I’ll tell you straight whether video analysis or the full programme is the better starting point.
